The Consumer Champ or FSI’s Large Format Reference Monitor?

If there is one type of question we get more than any other it’s – what monitor should I buy?

Generally, these questions ask to compare cheap computer monitors to reference monitors – and you can guess what we usually say!

Recently, however, we got a question (and a few like it from other members) from Dimitri asking:

‘If you turn off all the consumer crap and calibrate via 3d LUT, will a 2018 LG OLED (like the 65inch C8) look and behave like the FSI XM650U? Customer support and calibration options are great with FSI, but the money is 3 times more. Am I missing something?’

It’s a great question and in this installment of From The MailBag, we discuss the choice that Dimitri and others are trying to make.

It’s no secret that we’re huge fans of FSI and we have been discussing the new XM series in a recent Insights on the XM650U and XM310K.  The value proposition of the XM310K is clear – there is nothing like it on the market, but with the XM650U, many people will pause and ask themselves the same question Dimitri asked.
