Episode 38: From The Mailbag
Resolve 14 New Features Title & Remote Rendering Revisited
It’s been a while since our last proper Mailbag installment, but after a few days of recording answers to member’s new questions, we have several new Mailbag Episodes planned over the next couple weeks.
In this Episode, we’re joined by Mixing Light contributor, Joey D’Anna, who joins Robbie & Patrick while Dan is on a much-needed vacation.
Up first, we discuss the soon to be released Resolve 14 New Features training title that Joey is recording for MixingLight – this title is due out in the next couple weeks and it’ll be a comprehensive look at new features in Resolve 14.
Up next, we discuss a question we got from Mixing Light member, Nicole. Nicole asks to clarify what we mean by Resolve Remote rendering and Resolve render nodes.
Remember, if you have questions that you’d like to get our opinion on please use the contact form. Your question may be included in a future episode of From The Mailbag.
Your questions can be aesthetic, technical or even client related. We’d love to hear from you, and your question might make future episodes of From The MailBag.
Resolve 14 New Features Title
Mixing Light contributor Joey D’Anna is a bit of a savant when it comes to Resolve and postproduction workflows – and we mean that in the nicest way! Joey and Robbie are frequent collaborators in their creative lives and recently Joey was asked to man a demo station at the Blackmagic NAB booth.
Based on this experience, Joey has penned a couple great articles for us on the Resolve Mini Control Panel, as well as his top Resolve 14 new features.
Recently, we asked Joey if he’d be willing to record a Resolve 14 new features titles – we were thrilled when he said yes!
In Part 1 of this Mailbag, we discuss Joey’s new title and our general feelings about Resolve 14.
Resolve 14 represents a different approach for our stand-alone training. Instead of one massive 25-hour title, we’ll be releasing several more focused titles and the first one is Joey’s new features course. As we’ve done previously, members will receive special pricing for all of our Resolve 14 stand alone training titles.
Remote Rendering Revisited
As more and more one time Mac heads make their way to Windows & Linux based systems, there is one questions/topic that we constantly hear ‘what about ProRes Rendering?’
Recently Mixing Light member Nicole asked us to clarify/reexplain remote rendering:
‘Several times I’ve heard you discuss Resolve rendering nodes and remote rendering, but I’m not quite sure I understand how the setup works? Why would one need Remote Rendering?’ – Nicole Q
In part 2 of this Mailbag, we revisit the essentials of the remote rendering workflow. This discussion revisits many topics we’ve discussed in previous Insights including:
- Setting Up A Resolve Database Sever
- Remote Rendering
- The Promise Of Resolve Collaborative Workflow
- Getting To Know The Resolve Collaborative Workflow Part 1
- Getting To Know The Resolve Collaborative Workflow Part 2
Be sure to check out the Remote Rendering link for more information on running Resolve in a headless mode as Joey mentions in the episode.
