Day 13: 20 Insights in 20 Days Holiday Marathon
Fake Film Trailer: Part 3
In this series, I’m exploring finishing a fake film trailer in DaVinci Resolve 10. In Parts 1 and 2 we examined the edit and did the grade on several shots. Here in Part 3, it’s time to take a look at color correcting the FS700 footage. Not only do we have to ‘grade up’ this footage, it needs to match several other different cameras in this trailer.
Latitude of the FS700
Initially, I had thoughts that this would be the most difficult section of the trailer. The FS700 records to a compressed codec. You’d expect it wouldn’t have a huge amount of latitude with this compressed camera format. I was wrong! This section looks great and was a simple and fun process to get it graded up. In this insight, I’ll also be introducing the Sapphire plugins which I have not used since my flame days. Boy did I miss them!
