Basic VFX / Online Editing in DaVinci Resolve 10

In a world of ever closer deadlines and tighter and tighter budgets, colorists are being pulled into online finishing tasks. Clearly the DaVinci Resolve team understands this, with the evolution of Resolve 10 and its new Edit tab. The Edit Tab includes new editorial tools but also plus a fair amount of compositing tool – all useful for finishing tasks.

Getting familiar with Resolve’s Edit tab

As part of this ‘fake film trailer series’ I set myself a task to do the full finish in Resolve, including compositing, titles and VFX elements.. I hear so many stories of Baselight colorists saying that Baselight saved the day – being able to composite new elements into their timelines. And to be honest, now that Resolve 10 has all those tools available – it’s time I tried them out! After all, those same tasks are increasingly become a part of my job… and make me more valuable as a colorist.

In this insight I’ll be performing basic onlining and vfx tasks using TIFFs with embedded alphas, adding text and some basic VFX work.  I’ll also be using the Sapphire plugins – which relies on another new feature in DaVinci Resolve 10.
