Day 16: 25 Insights in 25 Days Holiday Marathon

Colorist Inspiration – Dan’s Best Of 2015

As the year comes to an end I thought it would be the perfect chance to share with you some of my favorite and most challenging grades of 2015.

Hopefully it will inspire a million questions from you guys and I’d love you to literally ask me anything.

For shorter answers I can answer in the comments section below and for anything longer or more complicated I can wrap up all your questions in my very last insight of 2015 at the end of our holiday marathon.

It’s normally quite difficult to share jobs with you but I feel like a once off at christmas time should make even the most strict client more lenient.

The jobs below are in chronological order rather than my favourites.

It’s hard to pick a favourite grade of the year. It’s like picking a favourite child!

Love that jamie lawson vid! especially how the grain changed throughout, what’d you use for grain? Was any of it noise from the alexa? Would love to know what the other spots were shot on as well if you happen to know. thanks!

Excellent eyes sir! So the camera was over cranked as we got into the older scenes and I also added on heavier grain so its a little of both to be honest. I used all gorilla grain on that. I found it to be great and flexible!

I’ll find out what the spots were shot on but it’s a mix of Red and Alexa pretty much

Any chance on letting us know what look up table was used on the “he, she, me” vid in node 2? I really dig the look you came up with. I also love the grade on the Jamie Lawson vid any chance we can get an insight on that look? Or if you have done one already definitely point me to it.

I can indeed! It’s actually just the regular Alexa LUT that comes with Resolve. It was lit amazingly by this handsome gentleman http://www.jakescottdop.com/

You can indeed sir! I’ll make sure to grab all the bits I need from work!
