News, reviews, thoughts, career advice, and humor for professional Video / Film Colorists & Finishers. Delivered Sundays. Curated by a professional color grader and the CEO of MixingLight.com.
In early 2009, I had one of my regular lunch discussions with colorist Alexis Van Hurkman. Our grading suites were ten blocks apart on the West side of midtown Manhattan. I can still picture the restaurant, though I forget the exact cuisine. Alexis chose the spot, so it was likely a Korean or Vietnamese spot.
That day, we were sharing ideas. He was discussing a color-grading book he was researching (The Color Correction Handbook). We both agreed that someone should write a regular newsletter rounding up all the new content on the Intertubes related to our craft.
A year later, this Newsletter was born.
I’m writing all this to give you the background to understand what I’m about to say next…
I am extremely excited for Alexis and his work at Adobe this past year. According to his blog post this week (linked below), he pitched an idea for modernizing Premiere Pro’s color processing pipeline to the powers-that-be.
This week, the results of his work can be seen in the recent Premiere Pro Beta release.
In my experimentation, he and his team are converting Premiere into a fully modern color-managed pipeline. It’s a long-term project, and this is the first step. We’ll discuss it more on Mixing Light from the perspective of working professionals.
In the meantime…
Congratulations Alexis!
Well done. And I’m rooting for you to get the job done and help transition the Adobe video ecosystem into the next decade.
Happy Grading!
I’ll see you next Sunday.
Sincerely,
Pat Inhofer Chief Photon Wrangler, Publisher MixingLight.comin
