Color Correcting with Log Controls in DaVinci Resolve: An Overview

July 7, 2013

Have you wondered how to use the Log Controls in DaVinci Resolve? This video is an overview of all the controls and some basic theory of how they work.

Using Log Controls in DaVinci Resolve

The log controls were one of the biggest announcements of version 9 of Resolve and have been a great addition to the toolset. My aim for the next series of insights is to demystify the log controls. I love them and use them so often as they give you the ultimate controls for fine-tuning your grade to get the best out of it. In this Insight, I’ll be doing an overview of all the controls and some basic theory of how they work.

  • Hey Dan,

Thanks for this. I’ve never really touched the log controls here and always achieve these moves by using luma isolations then the LGG controls in the primaries. I see how much quicker it is this way. Looking forward to the next in the series…

Hi Dan, really interested in hearing what you have to say about the log grading controls but i cant find the other parts of this series in the insights library.
Any tips for finding them, or could you pull them all together in a blog post?
    Thanks
    David

    Hey David,

Totally dropped the ball on this one and never actually did a part two. In good news Robbie did an insight on Log controls which you can find here. https://mixinglight.com/portfolio/log-controls-secondary/

I’ll make sure to revisit Log grading in my upcoming insights!
