Learn the new IntelliTrack AI tool – and when to go old-school with the Point Tracker

Fusion’s new IntelliTrack AI tool is fast and simple, but sometimes, tracks need to be tweaked. In this Insight, learn how to use and adjust problematic tracks with Fusion’s new AI tools – and when the traditional pattern tracker gives better results.

Learning to use the IntelliTrackAI tool

We begin with a relatively messy stock clip: low-resolution, shaky, and full of challenges—perfect for testing the limits of Fusion’s tracking tools.

Feel free to download the clip from the link below and follow along!

I show how to track moving cars that leave the frame or become occluded over some frames, starting with IntelliTrackAI. You will learn how to…

  • Interpolate between tracked areas
  • Clean up tracks
  • Manually tweak tracks
  • Extrapolate tracks beyond the tracking area

In addition, we discuss examples where IntelliTrackA can fail but traditional pattern tracking succeeds.

This can happen if the AI latches onto the wrong tracking information, like a false corner near the intended tracking feature, or when the AI does not recognize low-contrast/blurry tracking markers. Traditional pattern tracking allows us to tweak the pattern’s size and search radius, thereby giving additional options to control the track.

Key takeaways from this Insight

By the end of this Insight, you should understand how to:

  • Use offset tracking, linear interpolation, and spline tweaks to fix challenging tracks.
  • Combine your track with eyeball adjustments for parts of the movement that are extremely difficult or impossible to track.
  • Learn where IntelliTrackAI might fail and when the traditional pattern tracker might save the day.
