DaVinci Resolve Remote Grading : An Introduction

August 31, 2015

Remote grading in DaVinci Resolve is a unique way to color grade. It allows clients to view real time grading anywhere in the world.

We’ve all graded for “remote” clients. Directors that are not able to attend because they either have no time or don’t live near your grading room.

Sometimes these jobs go extremely well and get approved easily but more often than not we get feedback like :

“Too bright”

“Too yellow”

“Needs more pop”

How exactly do we address issues like the image being too bright? That could be many many things. Like a particular highlight being too hot or maybe a t-shirt in the background is catching the director’s eye.

Communicating these changes can be a complex and time-consuming process.

Tools like make this process a lot quicker but sometimes you need true live grading on a job

Watch out for that glass of water. Trust me on this.

Hi. Great article. I am curious to know if it would work to remote a Windows Resolve from a OSX Resolve or if it only work on the same plattform?

  • I’ll raise my hand for a vote for an insight on the connection part of this process. Specifically the VPN route since that one is much much safer. Thanks!

Is there a link to Part 2 that explains how to set up the VPN?
