Building Our Foundation for Docker and Beyond
In the previous Insight, we learned how to install a Linux virtual machine inside Windows 11 WSL 2. We’re on our way to set up ComfyUI in Linux, but before we can do that, we need to learn a few basic Linux commands.
The commands we’ll learn will enable us to navigate the file system and perform basic file manipulation in the command-line interface. These commands are useful in macOS Terminal, too, since macOS and Linux share a common lineage.
If you’re a Mac user, even though you skipped Part 2’s Windows-specific setup, this episode will teach you foundational skills you can use in Terminal right now.
We’ll cover essential commands like pwd (print working directory), ls (list files), and cd (change directory)—the building blocks for navigating any Unix-based system. Beyond navigation, you’ll learn to create, copy, move, rename, and delete files and directories, never dragging or dropping with a mouse – and post-production pros know the value of keeping your hands off the mouse for true speed and accuracy in getting our work done.
“These commands are useful in macOS Terminal, too, since macOS and Linux share a common lineage… I don’t want to scare you with the command line. You may think it’s archaic, but it’s actually quite modern… Linux does come with a full-blown graphical user interface… But the beauty of Linux is…you don’t have to use all that stuff if you don’t want to.”
