From The Publisher
Next weekend is the July 4 holiday weekend. This may account for the slow news week.

This Newsletter will be off for the holiday and return on Sunday, July 13. Have a great two weeks!

I’ll see you in two Sundays.

Happy Grading!

The Craft
Featuring the work of creative craftsmen, the theory of color, and industry news. Learn practical workflows, useful theories, and actionable insights from existing (and emerging) leaders and teachers in our industry.
“I looked at the credit of 4,000 top-grossing films reveals when and where the titles ‘cinematographer’ and ‘director of photography’ appear, and what that tells us about style, genre, and convention.”
Editor and colorist Oliver Peters recently had cataract surgery, which led him to share wisdom on the nature of human vision and how it changes as we age.

I have only one point to add: Besides relying on scopes, we can depend on our clients’ eyes. I’ve frequently taught: My job as a colorist is to see the image as my client sees it. That’s especially true when there’s a wide age gap between you and your client, due to the aging of our eyes. And the sooner we learn that in our careers, the easier it is to adapt.
