The Craft
Featuring the work of creative craftsmen, the theory of color, and industry news. Learn practical workflows, useful theories, and actionable insights from existing (and emerging) leaders and teachers in our industry.

(podcast) “For Disney’s Andor season 2, the acclaimed Star Wars political spy thriller, the creative brief was clear: keep it grounded, gritty, and cinematic; more Rogue One than space opera spectacle. Visual Effects Supervisor Sue Rowe, leading the Scanline VFX team, sat down with Mike Seymour for our fxpodcast interview to discuss the challenges and artistry behind some of the season’s most striking sequences.” Plus, embedded videos.

This news doesn’t really fall under the purview of this newsletter. Still, I find it interesting, so I’m sharing as a data point of Unreal Engine working its way into on-set/live workflows:

“Epic Games released its Sports Broadcast Motion Design Sample for free, delivering over 40 fully rigged graphics assets designed specifically for live sports broadcasts and venue displays. The package includes everything from scoreboards and player cards to transitions and animated backgrounds, all optimized for real-time use in Unreal Engine.”
