How to Use DaVinci Resolve’s Offline Reference Clip

Conforming In The Shadow of Giants, Part 9: Wrapping up the Conform

We’ve arrived at the end of this journey, conforming Mixing Light’s 10-minute short film, In the Shadow of Giants. In this Insight I’ll answer a question that’s been asked a few times; why aren’t I using Resolve’s ‘Offline Reference Clip’ to assist with the Conform?

In truth, I do use this particular feature in Resolve – just not at the start of the Conform. I actually use it to assist me when working on the Color Page. In this Insight you’ll also see me discover a behavior of the Offline Reference Clip that’s new (but do I like it? You’ll have to watch to find out 🙂 )

Finally, after having spent hours Conforming this 10-minute film, I circle back to answer the question: Why am I going through this pain? Why don’t I just use the Scene Cut Detection feature, which is a no-brainer?

As part of this Insight you also learn why I think it’s ESSENTIAL to quote the Conform portion of a color correction job as a separate line-item.

Enjoy! And thanks for following along with this series! As always, use the Comments for your questions, tips and observations.
