Dirty Looks – Emulating Early Film Looks with Light Leaks

July 2, 2016

Early film looks are a very popular request from clients. They can be tricky to build quickly so Dan shares his DRX files that you can download

Series

In this insight we continue on our series with some early film looks.

These looks get requested all the time so I thought I would give you two starting points to add to your toolbox.

You can download all the elements and my DRX files below!

I’ve also included the link to the Hail Caesar trailer which I mention in the insight as it’s such a beautiful reference for film in the early days of color.

I used Light Leak 13 from Creative Dojo which can be downloaded here : http://creativedojo.net/free-light-leaks-pack/

Film Frame – https://vimeo.com/66001579

My DRX files can be downloaded here.

Full Technicolor Tutorial can be found here: http://www.ditspot.net/3-strip-technicolor-look-in-davinci-resolve/ (note: this website appears to be offline and we can’t find the video anywhere else. Should we find it we’ll update this link.)

A note on the technicolor look. I know this isn’t the latest way of doing this since we have new tools that make it easier, but I haven’t built my own version of the new way of doing it.

Enjoy!
