Color Correcting With Legacy Filters In Premiere Pro Part 2—Are Your Tools Working Against You?

Exploring Premiere’s Broken Color Correction Filters

When designing a blueprint, it’s important to know what you need to avoid or you’ll find yourself re-working your blueprint time and time again. That’s what this Insight (and the previous one) are all about…

You are learning what to avoid, so you can design a functional blueprint tailored to Premiere Pro CC 2015

It turns out, there are fundamental flaws with most of the color correction filters that ship with Premiere. In this Insight you’ll learn how I came to this conclusion. And since the tools in the filters we explore here are replicated throughout the core color correction filters, the problem isn’t relegated just to what you see me demonstrate in this video.

The good news: The Lumetri Color Panel fixes these shortcomings

And we’ll be looking at the Lumetri Color Panel in the next two Insights in this series. But, as you’ll learn, our ‘color correction blueprint’ for color grading in Premiere Pro CC 2015 will require some reliance on the Legacy filters I demonstrate in this video. So it’s important I show you what to avoid… as well as what works.

And then, later, we’ll put all of this together.

Don’t forget: I’m not an expert on Premiere Pro shortcuts; let me know what I can do more efficiently!

Those of you who work with Premiere day-in and day-out will probably notice I take a few extra mouse clicks to get things done. Use the comments below and feel free to step in at any time and share your expertise! It’ll help all of us get faster at color correcting in Premiere.

Enjoy!
