Color Correction Tips: Matching Shots To A Brand Logo

July 21, 2013

Have you ever been asked to color match a shot to a reference image for their video? Here are a few ideas on how to do that in DaVinci Resolve.

Techniques for Matching Shots to a Brand Logo

When working in a commercial or corporate environment it’s essential to be able to ensure that the client’s branding is reinforced by the color grade.

Every client will know their branding and products inside out. So before going too crazy on building a look for them, we need to make sure if their pizza box is red & blue in real life that we make sure its red & blue on-screen!

In an ideal world the branding colors should look perfect from the set but most of the time, if it’s meant to be red & blue it will end up in the color correct as being a little too magenta and cyan.

In this Insight, I’ll show you how to work with a logo as a reference and how to match the red in the shot to our logo. And then you’ll match that look to other shots in the scene.
